I was massively impressed with the quality and breadth of the talks covered.  I found Robert Shepher’s “Open-source biotech; green solutions to human health” inspirational, Toby Hede’s “Things I have learned from a lifetime of failure” hilarious and Collis Ta-eed’s “Fast and Furious Startups: How to Iterate to Awesomeness” motivational.  I’d give commentary on the others, but there really isn’t the room.  You’ll be able to judge for yourself very soon as we’ll have videos out “real soon now”(TM).

A big congratulations to Rachel De Sain for receiving best speaker prize, as voted for by the audience.

Highlights

• We had (about) 150 people at our venue (which was slightly over capacity).
• We’ve got photos
• We’ve taken video of the whole thing and it should be up on the intertubes in the next day or two. I’ll put another post up with details when they’re ready.
• The twitter stream was overwhelmingly positive

We’re proud to announce Ignite Melbourne 2010 (#ignitemel), a part of Global Ignite Week, will be held on March 2nd, 2010 at Loop bar.

Ignite is a fast-paced, fun, thought-provoking, social, local and global event. It’s a high-energy evening of 5-minute talks by people who have an idea – and the guts to get onstage and share it with the world. Run by local volunteers over 6 continents, Ignite is a force for raising the collective IQ and building connections across Melbourne.

Upwards of 10,000 entrepreneurs, technologists, DIYers, creative professionals, and enthusiastic knowledge-seekers will gather in local pubs, theaters, and other convivial venues for an evening that is a unique blend of networking, information, and fun, encapsulated in the Ignite motto: “Enlighten us, but make it quick.”

In talks that are exactly five minutes long, Ignite presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds.
